Laparoscopic Surgery

Share |

Case Facts: A jury awarded a Frederick County woman $1.37 million dollars for an injury she sustained during an exploratory laparoscopy. The jury agreed that the surgeon failed to obtain adequate visualization of the operative field and injured a vein and an artery during the procedure. As a result, the patient had significant blood loss, requiring extensive blood transfusion. The patient must take a blood thinning medication for the rest of her life, must wear special stockings to prevent further blood clotting and lives in constant fear of having to undergo even the most minor of surgical procedures.
